We invite people to bootleg our shows. We invite people to…make CD copies….
Over the last 20 years that U2 have been a band, they have always thrived on their live concerts, and their enjoyment of playing during the shows. Since 1983 fans in the audience have recorded many shows with sensational results. Few bands have fan groups this active in celebrating their live performances. Although there are no official permits provided by the record companies and Management of U2 to "tape" the shows, all comments during interviews with Bono, The Edge, Adam and Paul McGuinness emphasized that they don't disagree to the "taping" of their shows, as long as the recordings are being interchanged between the fans without financial gain and nobody (except themselves) makes any profit with their music. Because of the past year's technical development and increase in Internet users, a unique sound format has been asserted for interchanging audio-files: Shorten (or SHN, for shorten). SHN makes it possible to reduce audio-files up to 50% of their original size without any quality loss (unlike MP3 or RealMedia) and to provide at the same time a verifying number. With that system it is possible to archive and interchange space saving, high quality U2 live recordings.
U2SHN.com's goal is to inform people about the technical aspect of SHN and its hurdles of perfect
audio-copies, as well as about the required software. Also, U2SHN.com's purpose is to serve as an
archive containing information about all U2 shows that are available in SHN format. Furthermore,
every trader on U2SHN.com can be registered in a database and can build new connections to other
traders in the database.
